Geocache Description:

Visnes history cache #1

Visnes, originally Vigsnes, is a former mining site. Vigsnes Kobberverk was a mining company which was active from 1865 till 1972. There were about 3 000 people living in Visnes. That means that Visnes had a greater population than Haugesund at that time.

In 1985, tests showed that the copper in the Statue of Liberty in New York comes from Visnes. Today, many people use the area for leisure. Fransahagen (a park) was built by the company's director Charles de France. Next to this park there is a mining museum and a cafe.

Stage 1 (letter A)
Tests have shown that the raw copper in the Statue of Liberty comes from Visnes. As a symbol of the discovery, a miniature model of the statue has been unveiled. The solution to stage 1 is found by summing the digits in the year inscribed on the iron plate.

Stage 2 (letter B)
If you continue west along the gravel path, you will soon pass an old sea mine from World War II. Sum all the digits/numbers found on the iron plate. Then find the digit sum of the number you just found (summing the two digits).

Stage 3 (letter C)
If you go further northwest on the gravel road, you will encounter the old smelting facility. The roof and all the equipment were removed when the smelting facility was shut down. Count the number of openings in the wall. Multiply the two digits with each other. This should result in a single digit, which is the answer to stage 3.

Stage 4 (letter D)

Use Trailhead 1 or 2 together with Trailhead 3 or 4 to continue to Stage 4. Trailhead 4 can also be reached by going back to the start point/parking and then heading directly to Trailhead 4.

You are now standing on a land based gun position from World War II. At this location, there are X number of half circles on the ground. The solution to stage 6 can be found by first counting the number of half circles and then subtract (-) the answer with 1.

You should now be able to find the final cache by replacing the letters A, B, C and D with the corresponding digits.
