Many people know that Trilobites are a fossil
group of marine arthropods that became extinct around 250 million
years ago.
Some may be aware of their chitinous
exoskeleton, but not many are aware of their unique eating/biting
mechanism.
The unusual feature of this tri-lobed
creature is that the toothless mouth of trilobites was situated on
the rear edge of their hypostome section and faced backward with
the esophogus to the stomach situated forward of the mouth, below
the glabella, where the "intestine" then led backwards from there
to the pygidium section.
