SNAP-CRACKLE-POP Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

2Wheel'in: Even though the container was rather robust, it wasn't treated very well and was frequently not closed properly. Found the contents soaked again (the log was indeed there, in its little black container clearly labeled "LOG". This was just a simple little cache placed for the attendees of the Lake Fairfax Geocaching Summer Camp in 2010...and I feel it has served its purpose. Lake Fairfax management, and the FCPA in general have been most cooperative when cache requests for the park were submitted...so I'll open up the area and maybe someone else can place a cache or two. Many thanks to all who've hunted SNAP-CRACKLE-POP, I enjoyed reading your logs. Container removed today, and the salvageable contents will be recycled into another cache.

Geocache Description:

A small relatively easy cache placed at the request of, and with permission of the Fairfax County Park Authority (FCPA), in support of their 2010 Geocaching Summer Camp Program (cache is permanent). Wide stone path, nice views, terrain rating reflects the last 65 feet.

This cache is hidden in Lake Fairfax Park, a FCPA Park with a wealth of attractions, as well as peaceful green spaces. It complies fully with the geocaching guidelines released by the FCPA.

SNAP-CRACKLE-POP…..no, not the breakfast cereal, but rather the sound that this monarch made as it crashed to Earth. I wonder if anyone was there to hear it? If not…I bet it still made noise!!

Begin your hike from the parking area (waypoint provided), and follow the gravel path around the lake shoreline, do NOT attempt to approach the cache from the reserved campground area on top of the hill. Camping area "A", and Group Camping areas 1 and 9 are restricted to registered campers.

It’s an easy hike suitable for kids of all ages, with a short but...steep elevation gain as you approach GZ, round trip distance is approximately 0.6 miles. The cache container is just 5 feet off the trail, and is hidden in a very traditional manner. The location sees lots of foot, and bicycle traffic, so please be "Muggle Aware" and cover the cache well when you replace it.

Last, but not least: No thorns, no ticks, no poison ivy!

Fairfax County Parks are open daily, dawn to dusk, please do NOT hunt this cache at night or any other time the park is closed.
