Hatch had just one cache? Indeed, it did as August 9, 2010. This cache is part of an effort to provide Hatch visitors with a few more caches to find during their visit.
I placed this cache here to let people know about the recent controversy over the giant pig owned by a local burger joint named Sparky’s BBQ. The pig has been the subject of debate due to the 1965 Beautification Act initiated by the then First Lady, Lady Bird Johnson. During her husband’s presidency (Lyndon B. Johnson) she was an advocate for beautification of the nation's cities and highways and the conservation of natural resources which she made her priority as First Lady, hence the 1965 Act. Apparently, some Hatch residents don't find the pig "beautiful" enough to stand in the center of town, :)
The cache is near the giant pig statute, but not in private property. No need to cross fences. You are looking for a pill container with a log only. BYOP. Surprisingly for such a small town lots of traffic goes by this road, so please be stealthy. Please, replace and hide as found or better. This cache is off NM-26 and just 1.9 mi from I-25, via Exit 41. Enjoy.
