Geocache Description:

Jim & Colleen's Fishing Hole
(great for swimming too!)

The cache is located in a beautiful little spot along the Embarras River. The Embarras River takes its name from the piles of driftwood that often clog its shallow winding channels. It was first named by local Metis who called it Riviere d'Embarras and officially recorded by the Earl of Southesk in 1859 while on a hunting expedition and chose to approach the Rocky Mountains via the river. Embarras is French for barrier which Southesk translated as lying-wood. He wrote: "We crossed the Embarras no less than thirty-one times after dinner...thirty-seven times in all during the day...as we threaded the winding course of the river, going up it's deep and narrow valley." Southesk gave up in frustration on the Embarras near this very spot and crossed back over to the McLeod, continuing upstream towards present-day Cadomin.

You are looking for a small Magic Baking Powder container covered in black hockey tape. It is on the far bank of the river and the hide is fairly winter-friendly. I found it was easiest to approach the cache from the pool-side and not from the rocks/woods side. Please don't disturb the sign or its base...it's not there!

I have no idea who the mysterious Jim & Colleen are but I'm sure you'll approve of their lovely little fishing hole! "Good Luck To You All!"
