This is our second cache to be placed on Bungay Common. It is situated about a 25 minute walk from the Common Car park. In summer it is normally dry under foot but in winter it can get a little muddy and damp.
Whether covered in snow or bathed in summer sunshine, Outney Common is a wonderful place to explore. In winter this low lying land is prone to flooding. Former local man George Baldry wrote in his book 'The Rabbitskin Cap', 'The water had come down so quick there had been no time to git all the stock off the Common, and six or seven horses were driven up onto the last bit of high ground sticking above the flood. They had to go out to them in boats, halter one of the old mares and lead her through behind one of the boats and git the other young 'uns to foller'.
Hopefully the water levels of the River Waveney will be at a more tolerable level for your visit.
The cache is slightly different from the run of the mill type. To locate it you will not need to go rooting around too much just remember that pertinent Sherlock Holmes quote, "You see, but you do not observe". You might like to question what appears to be the obvious. Oh by the way, you will also need to bring along your own pencil. Happy hunting!
CONGRATULATIONS TO ANDYSCORCH FOR HIS FTF!
