Geocache Description:


 

This cache is located near the start of the 1932 Olympic Bobsled track.  Cache is loaded with Olympic SWAG! There are two ways to get there - Pay for a tour of the current Olympic Track Facilty and it is a enjoy a 2 mile hike exploring all 3 tracks (1932, 1980 and 1998) . . . or park at South Meadow Parking and hike the 4.2 mile trail past a huge beaver pond and up the back side of Mount Van Hoevenberg.

This Track was built in 1930, it was 1.47 miles long with a 742ft vertical drop with 26 curves. although after the 1932 Olympics the top .52 miles and 10 curves were eliminated. The last mile and 16 curves remained until 1978.

Eight Nations Competed on this Track at the 1932 Olympic Games . . . USA took home Gold and Bronze in 2-man also Gold and Silver in 4-man Bobsleigh!
