Geocache Description:

Série pour découvrir à pied ou en VTT, sur les tracés du club vosgien , les scieries qui peuplaient nos vallées. Possibilité de parking : 48°38.363 et 7°03.873. Serie of caches to discover by walk or bike , on the track of the club vosgien, the sawmills which were present in our valleys. Possibility to park the car : 48°38.363 et 7°03.873.

Vers 1850,la Marine avait besoin de bois.De ce fait,à la fin du XIXè, les vallées de la Sarre Blanche et Sarre Rouge comptaient une quarantaine de scieries: 20 dans la vallée de la Sarre Rouge dont 7 à Abreschviller.Le manque d'eau(6 mois par an) et le manque de moyen de transport(malgré 73km de voie ferrée) vont engendrer le déclin des scieries vers 1935.Dans les années 1970, toutes les petites scieries forestières disparaissent et les exploitations se regroupent en lisière de forêt.

Située à la bifurcation du Romelstein, cette scierie allemande a fermé en 1970 en même temps que le chemin de fer car l'unique accès à la scierie était par la ligne de chemin de fer existante.

Towards 1850, the Marine needed wood. By this way, at the end of the 19th century, in the Sarre Blanche and the Sarre Rouge Valleys there were about 40 sawmills : 20 in the Sarre Rouge 's valley from which 7 in Abreschviller. The lack of water(6 months a year) and the lack of transport means(despite 73km rail)caused the decrease of the number of sawmills towards 1935. In the 1970th,all the small forestry sawmills disappeared and group together on the edge of the forest.
Located at the branching of the Romelstein, this sawmill closed in 1970 just after the train line stopped ,because the only way to acces to the sawmill was by this train line .
