Cache is a bison tube placed on the north end of the island. Please tread lighty wherever you go on the island. Until I get back to the island to verify coordinates, your search may require extra perseverance, but the cache is clearly visible. Cache approved by Fish, Wildlife and Parks.
Originally purchased in the 1950s by Fish, Wildlife and Parks for waterfowl nesting habitat, Cedar Island is now designated as a state wildlife habitat protection area. Cedar Island’s 30 acres are sought out as a destination and stopover area by boaters, especially during the summer months.
The island’s rocky shore offers few landing spots but there is popular cove on the southwest side with a pebble beach. After beaching your boat, you only have to go a few feet into forest before the sound of people and rumbling boat engines is nearly drowned out by the singing of songbirds. Black-capped chickadees, red-breasted nuthatches, and yellow-rumped warblers dart among Douglas firs and western cedars. A breeze blowing off the lake is scented by the evergreens, which shade the old homesite of the island’s original owners.
