Geocache Description:

Easy to drive up to and park very near. It is a small container with a log only. You will need your own writing implement. $1.00 coin for the first to find. Please do not go into the flower garden. It is not hidden there. You may need to watch for muggles, especially during the various activities that are scheduled at this location. Container has been changed after disappearing once. May be "hard" for muggles to find now.

There were not many caches in Carlin, so we decided to place this one. We have been given permission to place this cache on church property. This church was started in 1883 with a small group of people who met in the public library. It was part of a Railroad Circuit of churches, many times yoking Dean, Galena, Golconda, Lewis, and Battle Mountain. The main portion of the building was erected in 1903 and dedicated on Easter Sunday in 1908 when the $550 debt to build it was repaid. The railroad supplied steam heat for the building from 1925 until the mid-1950's. The parsonage next to the church was built during 1952-1955. In 1957, work began on the back section of the church, the Educational Unit. After 5057 hours of donated labor, the second building dedication took place in 1961. Throughout the years, the church has been known as the Methodist Episcopal Church; the Ecumenical Parish during the time it was yoked with Wells, Lamoille, and Owyhee; and finally the Carlin United Methodist Church.
Congratulations to elko dealers for the FTF!
