We have been looking for a spot to place a night cache near Pictou,
since we came to Nova Scotia 19 months ago. We finally found one. I
saw this potential trail for a night cache a couple of days ago
when pnutbeagle was driving me to Pictou to pick up my car after
repairs were completed on it. It is interesting what you see when
you are not driving.
All of The Beagle Clan (jleecollins, pnutbeagle,
CachingWithBeagles, Spikybeagle and The Monster Beagles) helped in
setting up of this cache. It was a ice walk for the dogs setting
this cache up.
This night cache is set-up on a trail from an old abandoned
road. Thank-you to "Anchor and Hold" for the additional information
on this road. From "Anchor and Hold" - "This is actually an old
road that used to run through to Abercrombie, on what is known now
as the Fraser Road on that end. There used to be a bridge across
the brook where highway 106 now crosses." If anyone has any further
information they can send me that would be great also.
Now back to the cache description. The posted coordinates will
lead you to the parking location and the Trail Head for the old
road trail. At this point, using your flashlight (the more powerful
the better) to follow a series of FireTacks to the first stage of
the night cache.
You will need to follow a series of brown reflective FireTacks
down the trail until you see a red square FireTack. From that
location, search for the 2nd red FireTack located about 10 metres
away. The micro container containing the coordinates for the final
is located on the opposite side of the tree from the FireTack.
The coordinates that are the outside of the micro cache
container that will take you to the final cache container (There
are additional labels with the final coordinates inside the
container but you should not need them to take them)
At this point we will have to trust your GPS and use your
flashlight to find the location of the final ammo can cache
container - there are no FireTacks to take you to the final cache
container - you will need to go off the trail to find it - minimum
bushwacking is involved - terrain is fairly level but may be wet in
the summer.
There is a FTF geocoin which I retrieved from a cache in
Newfoundland last July for the FTF to move along to another
cache.
There is a "The Marathon Man" pathtag in the cache container for
the FTF to take.
CONGRATULATIONS TO "Merriman08" FOR THE FTF
