Geocache Description:

The Fortress Southern Outlier Cache is located on a prominent ridge immediately south of The Fortress. The terrain leading to the cache involves a significant roundtrip hike of 18 - 20 km, with well over 1000 metres of elevation gain, along a trail with exposed roots, loose rocks, and short sections of tricky scrambling. Caution is advised at all times on this backcountry cache.

The Fortress Southern Outlier Cache is a round authentic LnL container with the usual logbook, cache note, pencils, and a few small trade items. The cache was placed near the Fortress Ridge Brass Cap - BCP494, as a way to encourage cachers to check out this amazing ridge with its wonderful scenery.

The easiest route to the cache site is via the Headwall Lakes Trail which is accessed from the parking area for Chester Lakes. Please use the reference points noted for this cache to access the correct trail.
