RNLI Series - Flamborough Lifeboat Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

Dalesman: This cache has been in need of care and maintenance for some time and as the owner has not responded to recent logs or logged into geocaching.com for some time I am archiving it.

Guidelines: "You are responsible for occasional visits to your cache to maintain proper working order, especially when someone reports a problem with the cache (missing, damaged, wet, etc.). You may temporarily disable your cache to let others know not to search for it until you have a chance to fix the problem. This feature is to allow you a reasonable amount of time - normally a few weeks - in which to check on your cache. If a cache is not being maintained, or has been temporarily disabled for an unreasonable length of time, we may archive the listing."

If you wish to email me please send your email via my profile (click on my name) and quote the cache name and number.

Many thanks,
DalesmanX

Geocache Description:

A series to eventually cover every RNLI Lifeboat station in the UK & Eire.

Access to the cache is down a steep road, car access is limited. There is a car park at the top of the hill. Watch out for the Lifeboat crew responding to a 'Shout'. Please do not block access to the boathouse or the Lifeboat recovery equipment.

For 122 years Flamborough launched lifeboats from two separate sites. Today an inshore Atlantic 85 lifeboat operates from the South Landing site. The crew have been presented with 16 awards for gallantry.

1871 Two lifeboat stations were established at North Landing and South Landing ‘… and they are so situated that when one is exposed to the wind and sea, the other is always under shelter.'

1993 An inshore lifeboat station was established on 12 July. A new boathouse was built at South Landing for the station's new B class Atlantic 21lifeboat and tractor.

1993 The all weather lifeboat was withdrawn from the North Landing site on 15 August.

1994 The Atlantic 21 lifeboat was replaced by an Atlantic 75.

2007 The new Atlantic 85 lifeboat “Elizabeth Jane Palmer” was placed on service.

As with all Lifeboat houses they are positioned in areas where people get into trouble at sea. Please take care.
