Geocache Description:

Anybody that has visited the Town of Wethersfield can attest to the amount of wind resources that are found there. With a statewide intiative to produce more energy from renewable resources, Wethersfield was chosen as a prime location to harness the wind and construct wind turbines. In midsummer of 2008 ground was broke to celebrate the offical start of construction. The 126 MW (megawatt) windpark which employs 84 General Electric 1.5 MW turbines is now fully operational. Over the next 20 years, The Wethersfield Windpark will bring an estimated $77.5 million to the local economy through PILOT payments, employment, operation expeditures, and education subsidiaries. Whether for or against, the winds of change are blowing and the way of the future is here.

This cache is a 4 leg mystery multi-cache that takes you to some of my favorite places to view the windmills. It is a short tour accross town with the final being a 30 cal ammo can hidden in plain sight. When you find the final, I strongly urge that you replace it exactly the way I have it so as not to alert muggles! It is exposed and if not put back right, it will be vulnerable! The first 3 legs can be done from the comfort of your vehicle but I urge you to get out and get the full sense of the windmills. Also, I do not recommend this cache at night as you will miss the views of the windmills which is the whole point of this cache.

Now on to the cache.

The posted coordinates will take you to the original windmills on Wethersfield Road. These V47 Wind Turbines produce 660 Kw (kilowatts) and were fully operational in October of 2000. These turbines are 100 feet shorter and produce half of the electric that the newer turbines generate. You must gather some information here to plug into the following coordinates.
N 42 40.A9B
W 078 13.9CD

  • A= The last digit in the total number of windmills here.
  • B= The number of windmills on the south side of the road minus the number of windmills on the north side of the road.
  • C= There is a name on the side of the windmill head. How many letters are there in this name?
  • D= The number of windmills on the south side of the road that have red lights on them.

Now you have arrived at the second leg. The windmill here is close to the road and you can see what is clustered at the ground near the bases along with a good veiw of the tower. On the gate there is a white address sign with two numbers that you must gather information from to plug into the next coordinates.
N 42 39. 1AB
W 078 15.3CD

  • A= The first digit in the top number.
  • B= The last digit in the top number multiplied by 3.
  • C= The last digit in the bottom number.
  • D= Subtract the first digit from the last digit in the top number.

At the third leg, you will have windmills on both sides of you. The north windmills will be close while the south windmills will be far away. The farthest windmills in the south are actually part of the Eagle Windpark. You will be between two electric poles to your south that we will refer to as the east pole and west pole respective to your position. On each pole there will be 4 numbers going vertically. Use these numbers to determine the coordinates to the final.
N 42 37.4AB
W 078 15.0CD

  • A= The top digit on the west pole.
  • B= The bottom digit on the west pole divided by 2.
  • C= The bottom digit on the east pole.
  • D= Add together the top digit and the one under it on the east pole.

The location of the final will take you to a valley with a view of several windmills. This spot is my favorite view of the windmills especially when the sun is setting. I highly recommend visiting this location at that time. When you spot the ammo can you will see that it is very secured in its spot. A through search will reveal a way to remove and access the can.The final is located on Town of Wethersfield property. There is no need to wander in the fields.

There is a NY Scratcher for the FTF and plenty of swag to go around for future cachers. Thank you for visiting and I hope you enjoy the tour!

Congratulations to MS6 on the FTF!
