Geocache Description:

This is one of a small series of caches based on the book, "Raleigh: An Unorthodox History of North Carolina's Capital" by Marshall Lancaster (1992, Down Home Press). You are looking for a micro container, filled with a small amount of swag and log and camo'd to blend in. Please rehide it as well or better than you found it, as this is a high-muggle area.

Cleveland, as you may know, has a famous incident when the Cuyahoga River in its industrial district caught fire. Raleigh, with no major water thoroughfairs, had to make do with a road....

"In 1800, only 19 blocks in the center of town were largely developed. Many streets, starting at the State-House, were surfaced with a blend of mud, stump fragments, and horse manure. The General Assembly seemed more amused than the residents of Jones Street when the actual STREET was ignited and smoldered like compost for about a day before finally being extinguished."
