Geocache Description:

Isambard Kingdom Brunel was probably the greatest civil engineer the UK has ever seen.

He completed a vast number of major projects during his relatively short lifetime, dying following a stroke at the of age 53. These ranged from bridges and docks to railways and steamships. His interest in engineering came from his father, also an engineer, who started to teach him from the age of four. He is particularly famed for his development of the Great Western Railway from London to Bristol. Brunel was also active in South Wales, designing the Landore Viaduct in Swansea (see cache listing GC212KX) and Briton Ferry Docks. Many of his legacies are still visible today. This cache is located along a footpath which lies in an old railway cutting. This was the site of a rope hauled incline railway designed by Brunel in the 1850s and opened in 1863. The footpath is known as Rhodfa Clarke, named after the wife of the engineer who designed the nearby Jersey Park. The path is not paved and is on an incline. The cache is a few metres off the path and wheelchair users would find the path bumpy and would not be able to reach the cache location. There is no need to remove any stones to locate the cache. Cachers have reported poor GPS signal due to overhead trees. Hint added.
