Geocache Description:

At the cache location you will be at the junction of three different places: Carlsbad State Beach, Encina power plant, and Carlsbad Aquafarm.

Carlsbad State Beach is a typical attractive Southern California beach. It has coastal bluffs, swimming, surfing, fishing, and also camping facilities to the south.

Cabrillo power company's Encina plant is the largest fossil-fueled plant in San Diego county, and has a tower that is a Carlsbad landmark. It's five gas turbines produce about 950 megawatts, enough to power about a million households. Upgrades over the years have dramatically reduced it's pollution output.

Carlsbad Aquafarm sells about 400,000 pounds of shellfish a year to wholesalers across the country. It's main products are mussels and oysters, but it also produces clams and abalone. The floats of the aquafarm also serve as roosts for the California brown pelican.

Parking may be tough and you may have to park some distance away. The cache is a camouflaged altoids tin with room for small travel bugs and items. It contains a log, pencil, and some small trinkets.
