This cache has been archived.

offline.cacher: The general rule reviewers use to archive a cache is that the cache owner has been notified (through a log entry) by the reviewer and that no response has been forthcoming. This is the case with this cache. As a result it has been archived.
If the owner would like to discuss this issue, please contact me through my geocaching.com profile. Include the GC code for the cache.

Geocache Description:

You can check your coordinates for the final location on Geochecker.com.

NOTE: The hint is a spoiler. Read the entire description below before you begin.

This LETTERBOX will be fun for families, as the kids will enjoy working out the paces or using the compass. But parents please oversee children and be sure all the items are returned to the box (If there is any space left, you've forgotten something), the cover is sealed TIGHTLY, and it is hidden really well into its place when you leave. Do NOT take the stampers, as this is not a cache! Please no swag or trackables, except a geocoin might fit (You MUST log trackables into your inventory if you take them from this box).

At the very least, bring a blank piece of unlined paper with you to the letterbox.
STEALTH is really important here, as this is a busy area. Move away from the hiding spot a little once it is found. When you get to the letterbox, follow the directions on the log book. (Your log in this case is your stamp placed in the letterbox's log book.) If you have no stamper, leave a thumbprint.

The posted coordinates lead you to the starting point, not the letterbox itself. The STARTING point consists of three yellow posts in a row. PACE CALIBRATION leg: From the first post to the third post equals 4.5 of my paces (steps).

If you want to use a compass (optional) instead of following the legs: Stand at the middle yellow post. At a bearing of 100 degrees, take 92 paces in a straight line, and you will be at the box! Then search for letterbox or see hint.

To follow legs directions to the cache (no compass), begin by standing at the middle post. Facing EAST and perpendicular to the road, take 43 PACES. Arrive at tree. From the tree take 16 PACES to the green sign. Continuing in the same direction, on the path take 26 PACES and stop. Turn 90 degrees left, walk 12 paces. Then search for letterbox or see hint.

LETTERBOXING is very popular in England, where it began, and they even share stamp pads in pubs. In 1854, a Victorian gentleman hiker put his calling card in a bottle and stuck it into a bank at Cranmere Pool, in a remote part of Dartmoor, England, which is now a national park. He invited others who found the bottle to add their card. Over the years, the hobby developed, and people began to place self-addressed stamped post cards in the box, hoping it would be returned to them by the next visitor. Eventually, the post cards were replaced by a log book and rubber stamp, often home-made and unique to the individual or family. Letterboxing came to the USA in 1998. There are currently about 20,000 letterboxes in North America.

This letterbox is registered on AtlasQuest.com http://www.atlasquest.com/ and letterboxing.org

This letterbox was inspired by Team Covey. Thanks!!
