Geocache Description:

Since I have always been interested in railroads, I’ve decided to start a series of caches highlighting some of the physical features that still remain of railroads that no longer exist in the central KY area.

The Louisville Southern Railway built this line in 1888 to connect Louisville and Lexington. After the acquisition and expansion of the Versailles and Midway, through trains from Louisville to Cincinnati were operated over the line for a short time. In later years, it was only operated as a branch to serve Wild Turkey and a light switch engine was kept in Lawrenceburg to go over this bridge. The last train over the Tyrone Bridge was in the 1980's, as the bridge was never strengthened to handle the heavier loads of modern trains. Wild Turkey switched to trucks and the pictures of the railroad that I saw from 2001 shows that it had been a few years since any trains had passed. Rails are gone now, taken up a few years ago.

Cache is NOT on the bridge, so please don't look there. If you go more than 5-6 feet from pavement, you're in the wrong spot.

I intended to place this cache near Wild Turkey, but there was another one too close, so I headed down to Cedar Brook Road to look for the crossing there. I was pleasantly surprised at what I found and you probably will be, too. The terrain here had my GPS jumping a little, but hopefully you'll narrow it down.

This road dead ends into private property, so night caching should probably be avoided. There is a good turnaround at the end. Be respectful of the private property on each side of the road.

The container is a camo pill bottle. Bring your own pencil.

Note: This is the 2nd cache, the first one disappeared. If this one goes, I will move it to another spot. This is meant to be a park and grab and is about 10' from the edge of the road, so please don't go any farther than that.

UPDATE: I went out to replace the log today and I couldn't find my own cache! Maybe it disappeared in the last week, so I replaced it. If you find 2 caches, let me know!
