Lightship 612

Built in 1950 at Curtis Bay, Maryland by the United States Coast Guard Yard for $500,000, Lightship 612 was the second last ship to serve the Nantucket Shoals station and was also the second last US lightship in commission. In 1975 Lightship Ambrose, the Nantucket's sister ship, was renamed Lightship Nantucket II and the two ships spelled one another, relieving each other approximately every 21 days.
In 1983 the last lightship station, Nantucket, was discontinued and 612 had the unique distinction to become a white cutter, sent to the Caribbean to act as a fueling station for the SES (surface effect) vessels engaged in drug interdiction.. When this assignment ended, the ship returned to Boston and was decommissioned in 1985, concluding 35 years of Coast Guard service.

It is presently converted to a private yacht.
