Bedford Memorial Park

I kept passing by this beautiful little park, not realising its significance, until finally stopping to have a look. Wow! What a tranquil oasis, sitting above Broome with Roebuck Bay below. There are 11 Memorial Plaques here:

1) William Dampier – Navigator
2) Hugh Davis Norman – Pioneer/Founder
3) Edgar de Burgh Norman – Pioneer/Pearler
4) Dampiers Arrow – Pointing to wreck site
5) Allied War Memorial – Broome Air Raids 1942
6) Broome War Memorial – Broome Casualties in Wars
7) Baudin Expedition – Explorer
8) Time Capsule – Children of Broome 2008
9) Time Capsule – Kim Male 2008
10) William Dampier Memorial Chest
11) Memorial to Indigenous War Deaths

This is the location of Broomes’ ANZAC day march on the 25th April every year.
Spend some time reading all of these plaques and have a look at the interesting rock carving. The gardens are beautifully maintained, but it is a shame that the locals leave bottle caps, corks, cans, beer cases, bottles, and such lying around. It must keep the gardeners busy with the cleanup. There is even a table for having a picnic. Peaceful and picturesque. Enjoy.
