Geocache Description:

This is set on the Schnuz team's circular morning walk. The cache is located on a public footpath that crosses over the top of Pike Lowe at an altitude of approximately 700ft. It is over fields, which can be quite wet in places, and sometimes contain livestock. Be aware that the grass in some of the fields can reach around three feet in height and often does between hay cropping.

Withnell airport is the area's busiest and finest airport. It boasts two of the finest green surfaced runways, a hangar to house the air fleet and the latest, slightly faded, orange airspeed and direction indicator. If you have dogs with you be aware that the airfield often contains flocks of woolly backed four legged runway maintenance crews.

It can be reached from either Bury Lane (although parking here is not recommended), an unnamed gravel farm access road (again not recommended for parking) which links Brinscall and Withnell or Withnell Fold old road. Which, contrary to it's name, is a footpath for the majority of it's route, Sat-Nav will try to send you this way between the A674 Chorley road and Brinscall but ignore it, it will get you nowhere near to the cache by car and does not link up the two. This one is definitely not a drive-by! Recommended parking would be on Sandy lane in Brinscall and follow the Schnuz teams morning circular that should take less than forty minutes depending on how many caches you take in. From Sandy Lane turn right into Balmoral Drive and then left into Sandringham drive. Walk up the hill and bear left onto the unnamed farm track. Follow this track till you get to "Izzy Wizzy let's get Bizzy” and then take the fairly well defined footpath through the fields. There are often horses in these first fields and sheep on the airfield itself. After the cache head towards "Pike Lowe” again by SherlockFolmes, there is a fairly well defined "Schnuz” trail (a darker green track after haymaking or a worn trail through the long grass before) that will lead you first to the fantastic views looking towards the coast and then down the hill to Withnell Fold old road, although not in a direct route to the "Pike Lowe” cache. Due to the height of the grass at times even welly bobs won't prevent wet feet if it's been raining! Finally head towards "What flew over the duck pond?” after which bear right, past the duck pond on the right, and Sandy Lane is directly in front of you.
