The Castle Gate Mine #1 opened in the late 1880s, but the area has
been mostly reclaimed since it closed down. There are still
portions of the old mine portals visible, but they are all buried
and inaccessible. There is ample parking on either side of the
road, but I recommend parking on the northeast side in the paved
pullout near all the historical markers (trust me on this ).
The difficulty and terrain ratings for this cache, along with the
attributes, are a good indicator of where you may find it. The
location won't be obvious, but if you figure out the correct
elevation it will be much easier to find. You can walk right to the
cache, and there is no need to crawl or shimmy your way
there.
If the above isn't enough, look behind the "Willow Creek Mine
Explosion" monument for another hint.
