Killarney Glen Traditional Cache

The Land Warfare Centre, Canungra, was listed as a place on the Register of the National Estate as “an area of natural significance” in 1996 and is
therefore subject to the provisions of the Australian Heritage Commission Act (1975). The area nominated for the Register includes all of the Land
Warfare Centre except for the Cantonment (Kokoda Barracks) and a grazing lease on the eastern side of the Close Training Area.
The cache is on Defence Land which the Federal Government granted civilian access too on 29 August 2000. The only restriction is do not enter while the soldiers are conducting training. The Army has trained soldiers here since deployments to Vietnam. The soldiers overseas currently could have trained here, it is important that they train correctly so please respect any closure and return another day.
The sign at the boundary to the land will indicate if it is open or closed. If you are travelling from Canungra another sign is at the turnoff to Beechmont Road at S28 01.502 E153 10.692 it displays the open or closed Killarney Glen area.
Park at S28 04.704 E153 12.054 where the pedestrian gate and track starts, you have approximately 1km to walk. It is a rather steep walk, the reason for the terrain stars.
The walking track zig zags and is more gradual than the vehicle track. but they both drop off 150m in altitude. At the bottom of the track you will find Back Creek and Killarney Glen Falls. The rocks are slippery when wet so watch the edges if you approach them and any children you make take to the cache.
There are a number of buildings which is the homstead of the past. We could refer to these as sheds by todays living standards. Please look but do not destroy anything. There is a couple of long drop toilets in the area if you require. If there is no fireban you are able to BBQ in the set fireplaces.
