Cache is at the very top of Trebevic Mountain, the beautiful, pine tree covered Olympic mountain that towers above Sarajevo. Cache is just off the marked hiking trail along the rocky ridge behind the communication towers. Views are magnificent.
From Sarajevo, take the upper paved road towards the Jahorina Ski Area (NOT the one that goes through Pale). From central Sarajevo, drive over the hill into East Sarajevo and turn left at the “T” intersection at Way Point #1. Wind your way up the mountain and turn right onto the narrow, paved road at Way Point #2. BE CAREFUL! This is a very narrow road with blind corners and few places to pull off. Approach each blind corner with extreme caution as someone could be coming down the mountain. At Way Point #3, make a sharp left hand turn onto a dirt road and go up hill. The road is not as good but there are more places to pull off if you meet another vehicle. Wind up and up, past a helicopter pad, and on to the main, concrete tower. Park by the garbage container or go down a slight slope to the left and park in the lower area. Take the narrow trail straight up the steep slope to the communication towers at the top of the ridge. Go around fence that encloses the second tower. Then just follow the marked trail along the ridge to the cache, placed just off the trail on the right (with the towers behind you) in a small flat area on the treeless side of the mountain. Be sure to continue along the ridge, going AWAY from the communication towers to the end of the ridge. From that Way Point #4 you will have a 270 degree panorama that, on a clear day, is probably the best view in all of Bosnia and Herzegovina. Note the old fortifications and passageways along the ridge and remains of living quarters on the treed side of the ridge. Return to the parking area either the way you came or take the lower trail that winds through the beautiful pine forest, past an old mountain house, and back to the parking area at the base of the tall concrete tower. Hope you enjoy this cache. Good luck! ADDENDUM, Sept 20, 2019: As this cache was placed almost 10 years ago, the directions above may no longer be 100% correct. But it is still very "findable" as many cachers do so regularly. We are no longer in BiH but have left the cache active because there are so few of them in the country. Thanks to the cachers who have maintained it over the years!
