Geocache Description:

Everyone that attends this event will receive one of my FTF smashed/squished/elongated coins. Everyone that has a copy of First to Find by Mark Gessner will be able to get it signed by the Author AT this event. Please read the FULL DESCRIPTION of this event. Important details follow...

This event will be held at the Escalante’s Mexican Restaurant, (Near Meyerland Plaza) at Beechnut & 610, in the S.W. corner, of the 610 loop, from 11am-2pm-ish. Come on over and hang out, talk about geocaching, and have a bite to eat, or a Margarita. (after 12:00pm) Look for us in the front bar area of the restaurant or the party room in the back of the restaurant if we're lucky enough to score that space.

When planning a trip to attend an event celebrating the first novel of fellow geocacher lowracer (Mark Gessner), who will be visiting Austin on September 11th, I caught wind that his next stop would be to visit family here in the Houston area and I begged him to make another appearance, so I could get my copy of his novel signed with the added benefit of saving almost 400 miles worth of gas money.

As you may or may not know, Mark used to live and cache in Austin, where he also wrote his first novel First to Find, a geocaching murder mystery, back in 2004. I used to attend a lot of events in the Austin area back then and I hear from credible sources that a character in the novel may remind you a little of someone you know from these parts, but most certainly if you know some of the long time Austin cachers then more cachers/characters may jump out at you. Of course it's a work of fiction and all of the characters could just about apply to any caching community around the country. In short, everyone is first to find...

The book is about some Austin geocachers who turn amateur detective when they discover clues in the field and set out to solve a murder spree. But not before the killer joins their game... Much of the book takes place in Austin Texas.
In 2005 Mark moved away to Wichita Kansas, then to San Diego, and is now back in Texas, in the DFW area. He decided to publish the novel in June, and it is starting to take off.

Mark will be happy to discuss the book and answer questions. He will also be glad to sign your copy of the book, or your Kindle cover. It is recommended you have read the novel (First to Find by Mark Gessner) before this event as the early discussion will no doubt include spoilers. Mark will also be happy to discuss the sequel, working title Cut Crystal, currently in progress.

If you don't want to hear spoilers it's suggested that you arrive after 12pm. Also, no books will be on sale at this event, so if you want a copy you will have to obtain one before the event.

Everyone really enjoyed the last 19 geocaching events (That's 18 official and 1 "No Smiley, Just Smiles" event.) that I held here. I love it so much, I even held my rehearsal wedding dinner here.

The prices are reasonable and the food and service are excellent. BTW - The white chedder queso is to die for!!! YUMM!
