"Please, Don't Jump The Guardrail!"
At certain times of the year, large groups, or "wake", of vultures roost on the power line supports just north of this cache. Sometimes there are hundreds at one time. Vultures are scavenging birds that feed on the carcasses of dead animals. A particular characteristic of the vulture is it's bald head, devoid of feathers. This helps to keep the head clean when feeding. Vultures feed only on dead animals, animals killed or that died from being sick. The vultures stomach acid is exceptionally corrosive, allowing them to safety digest putrid carcasses infected with toxins, cholera, and bacteria. This also enables them to use their reeking, corrosive vomit as a defensive projectile when threatened. Vultures also urinated straight down their legs, the uric acid kills bacteria accumulated from walking through carcasses.
So, if you are slow, not moving very fast, when finding this cache, the vultures may think you are dead. Please, don't jump the guardrail, trying to get away from them.
