Many people traveling on US-401S or US-401N drive by this cache
area and do not notice what is there.
In this area reads a sign, "W.T. Covington Demonstration Forest"
which is sponsored by the NC Forest Service and was planted in
March 1989.
In North Carolina, demonstration forests are a program of the NC
Forest Service where various forest ecology and forest management
techniques are demonstrated. The different ecology or techniques
being demonstrated can include: acid rain, biodiversity, botanical
surveys, clearcutting, ecosystem, insects and pathogens, soils,
tree harvesting, wildlife behavior, and many more.
Please replace the cache as found and observe all signs. (Note: The
cache is not in the forest nor past the "no trespassing"
signs.)
There is plenty of parking off the shoulder but use caution when
getting back on the road; traffic can be heavy at times.
