Geocache Description:

Another in the series of caches all within walking distance of Lord Sefton Way, which is the road going through Gt. Altcar in West Lancashire. This one is a small clip & lock box, with a few swaps and a FTF certificate. You need to go down a very badly mainteined public footpath it is marked at the side of a farm, on the main road. Good luck.

Great Altcar is a hamlet in West lancashire bordering the River Alt, there are no shops or public houses and no public transport; and there are almost as many farms as their are private houses.
There are a few old bulidings worth viewing while in Great Altcar, the chuch, the thatched cottage at the corner of Engine Lane and the two school houses.
The road through Great Altcar is very busy, although it is a B road and subject to 40 mph, not many vehicles stick to the speed limit; so take extra care as some of the footpaths are very narrow.
Please do not park on the main road, there is limited parking available by the church, and also by the village hall.

If you turn right after GZ you can follow the edge of the field (I presume this is the continuation of the footpath although not marked) keeping right all the time and you will eventualy end up in Engine Lane.
Further to this I have found a map with the footpath on, unfortunately the path carries straight on in it's badly mainteined state. But I have walked round the edges of the fields as described without any problem many times, so it is up to you which way you go.

The path has now been cut by the farmer (15/10/10) and the cache is a lot easier to get to, but I advise you not to take a dog down the path as it is full of sticky-bobs, it took me over an hour to get them all out of my dogs coat

Please make sure the cache is well hidden before leaving.

Congratulations to 'The Hungry Hunters on a difficult FTF.
