-allenite-: As there's been no response from the cache owner to my previous note, I'm archiving it to keep it from continually showing up in search lists and to prevent it from blocking other cache placements.

Please note that geocaches archived by a reviewer or Geocaching HQ for lack of maintenance are not eligible for unarchival.

Geocache Description:

The Devils River cache The no trespassing sign pertains to the property on the NE corner of the road. I think the owner is trying to keep people from using the road & wants to make them think its private, but its not. The road is open to the public & goes back to state land, on which the cache is located. So feel free to drive back with a 4x4 or hike back on the 2 track.

This is a little known area of state land on the Devils River.

If you follow Piper rd. east, off of US 23, it crosses old Ossineke rd. You can park at the corner, or if your bold you can follow the 2 track that parallels the RR, on the north side. It dead ends about a half mile in.

The Devils River got its name from the Indians. During the spring break up, ice from Devils Lake would pile up in a ice dam. The ice would break & rush down the river, ripping up the banks & roaring like the Devil from hell.

So enjoy this peaceful little area & think of the Indians camping here long ago, listening to the Devil roar down the river toward them!
