Juneau Falls Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

Greatland Reviewer: Hello:

Time for some Spring clean-up before the mosquitoes fly and the cruise ships arrive.

This cache page has been archived due to the lack of a timely response to a prior Reviewer Note. If the owner would like to have it reinstated, please contact me through my profile as soon as possible before another cache gets placed nearby.

Please note that unarchiving a cache page requires it to go through the same review process as a newly proposed cache, using the cache placement guidelines currently in effect.

Geocache Description:

A 4.3 mile trek on the Resurrection Pass trail will bring you to the Juneau Falls -- and this cache!

Park at mile 53 of the Sterling Highway at the Cooper Landing end of the Resurrection Pass trail. The hike is uphill for at least the first 2 miles, but it is not steep.

This is an ammo can cache positioned to bring you to the spectacular Juneau Falls on Juneau Creek.

A cache with the same name was about 1/8 mile away and had to be archived due to lack of maintenance. I rescued the log from this 2003 cache (nothing else was salvageable), and will dry it out and put it into this cache on my next visit to maintain the history.

This cache makes a nice day trip. The 4.5 mile hike is remarkably tame compared to others I'm used to in Kenai Peninsula mountains. Kids should have no problem if they are used to hikes of this distance.

From the cache, if you go back to the main trail and continue a bit north, you will get to a bridge over the creek above the falls. The main trail continues to the left, but if you turn right off the bridge, you will get to a camping area with a nice firepit and bear-proof food box and a trail that leads to the top of the falls from this side of the creek.
