Geocache Description:

Please bring a pen!!

The pine tree has been one of the greatest renewable resources for the south. Today’s market has called for a shorter turnover time on investment and thus, the “long leaf” pine tree is becoming a relic of the past. The faster growing “short leaf” pine with it’s softer wood is now dominating the timber market.

My grandfather told me stories of how beautiful south Mississippi was when he was a boy in the early 1900’s and how one could walk for miles & miles under the shade and lush understory of the “long leaf” pine. I have experienced remnants of these magnificent forest and hope my children’s children, thru our thoughtful stewardship, will also experience the piney
woods.

The seeker of this mystery will need to become familiar with the Dr. Seuss story, The Lorax, whether by reading the book or the story online. What an incredible tale it is! To appreciate the hand-crafted stamps, one would want- to become visually familiar with the “Lorax” and the “truffula” tree.

The listed coordinates will guide you to the base of a very large “truffula” tree where you will sign the log and utilize the stamp. You will then be asked a question. The answer to the question will produce a single word, which once decrypted will reveal another set of nearby coordinates where you will meet the “Lorax”. To decrypt, use the alphabet and assign each letter of the one word answer a number based on numerical order in the alphabet. Then assign each number revealed to the blanks in the coordinates listed below.

N 31 02.113
W08A BCDEF

A = number - 12
B = number - 14
C = number - 5
D = number + 3
E = number -17
F = number - 17
