VIEW ON OLD
CHURCHES
BY MOBELLINO TEAM
Hidelve is the oldest "neighborhood" of Cluj. It
was probably established soon after the construction of the old
fortress of the medieval town. In a document dated 1712 is
mentioned as Vetus Extra Moenia (outside the old city).
Few people still use this name of the Cluj area, that stretches
north of Somes, from Horea street up to the hill to west. Hidelve
actually means "beyond the bridge" and it was the name used by
those who lived in the old city, in today's historical center. The
area beyond the bridge by mid 19-th century was almost entirely
occupied by farms, vineyards and orchards of farmers and animal
breeders. Of old names of places we can deduce that here lived a
large Saxon community. The Reformed Church of Hidelve is on Horea
Street (formerly King Ferdinand and even before Ferenc József). It
was built by Ferenc Szalai's plans in the years 1897-1898, in honor
of the 1,000th anniversary of the Christianization of Hungary.
Hence the name of Millennium.
Hidelve este cel mai vechi "cartier" al
Clujului. S-a infiintat probabil imediat dupa construirea cetatii
vechi a orasului medieval. Intr-un document din anul 1712 Hidelve
este amintit drept Vetus Extra moenia (orasul vechi
exterior) . Putini clujeni mai cunosc aceasta denumire a zonei care
se intinde la nord de Somes, de la str. Horea spre vest, pana sus
pe cetatuie. Hidelve de fapt inseamna "dincolo de pod", fiind
denumirea folosita de clujenii care locuiau in vechea cetate, in
centrul istoric de astazi. Zona de dincolo de pod a Clujului pana
la mijlocul sec. XIX a fost aproape in totalitate ocupata de
gospodarii, vii si livezi ale agricultorilor si crescatorilor de
animale. Din denumirile vechi ale locurilor putem deduce ca aici a
trait o importanta comunitate saseasca. Biserica reformata din
Hidelve se afla pe strada Horea (fosta Regele Ferdinand, inainte
Ferenc Jozsef). A fost construita dupa planurile lui Szalai Ferenc
in anii 1897–1898, in cinstea aniversarii a 1.000 de ani de
la crestinizarea Ungariei. De aici denumirea de Millenium.
