You're standing at the foot of the set of hills on which is
located Telegraph Hill.
The Hay Lakes Telegraph Station was part of the Canadian
government's Dominion Telegraph line as it was being constructed
west from Winnipeg along the Hay Lakes/Battleford/Telegraph Trail.
Until 1879, the Hay Lakes station was the furthest point west on
the telegraph line that knit together communications across the new
country of Canada.
See those beehives up the hill? They've got real bees in
them!
