Geocache Description:

Update on cache description: Unfortunately, the brick road is no longer here due to development in the area. This is sad - very sad - I'm leaving the cache for now, but the reason for the hide is no longer there .... ******************************************************** This cache is hidden near a historical site in Ocoee: Maine Street. Up until 1936, this brick road was Florida Route 50. It is now being preserved as part of the history of Ocoee and West Orange County. As was the standard for the main roads of the day, it was nine feet wide and paved with brick. Buses ran on it to and from Orlando in 1915. When present State Route 50 was created in 1936 to the south, travel to and from Orlando became considerably easier.

Since I am born and raised in this area, I remember quite a few brick roads growing up. I didn’t really travel this particular brick road as this was before my time. However, I do remember White Road (now Orlando Avenue) being a brick road. On this particular road, they really didn’t need speeding limits because the bricks were so uneven, if you went fast, it really was hard on your car and/or tires.

On your post, if you remember a brick road, please share.
