Widdop Oil Road - Man Trap
In 1962 the Continental Oil Company of Texas were granted permisssion to drill for oil in the area and this road is the one they built to reach the site.
Park near to GCZAK01 and walk in for this and the other caches along the way.
To make your trip worth while (as though the area wasn’t wonderful enough in its own right) I have placed the caches rather closer together than I normally would. Beware that after the Oil Well the land is almost always boggy. Up at Dovestones the midges can make you think you’re in Scotland!
Along the road the first cache is at a most interesting point. Exploration shows a trap of some kind – see the photos. The spring is so big that I call it a Man Trap – if you know what it is for please post here. Two very obvious things – look by all means but don’t put your hand in – the cache IS NOT down there. In the highly unlikely event that a Gamekeeper or Shooters are there wait until the return trip to pick the cache up!
The cache is quite large but the log is within a film can inside to keep it dry.
