BLUE MOSQUE
Blue Mosque is one of the landmarks of the city. The mosque is popularly known as the Blue Mosque because of blue tiles adorning the walls of its interior. It was built four centuries ago. While still used as a mosque, the Sultan Ahmed Mosque has also become a very popular tourist attraction. It is the only mosque in Istanbul with six minarets.

We placed a small box in a less frequented corner of the courtyard walls. The hole into which we placed our box was hidden by several stone tiles. This place is near the entrance of visitors to the mosque. It contains, in addition to usual stuff (log-book, pencil, etc), some glass beads and several fridge magnets in blue evil-eye form ( (visit link) ) The courtyard is always very crowded. Please help this cache to live longer by paying utmost attention to mugglers.

SULTAN AHMET CAMII
Sultan Ahmet Camii, 1609-1616 yillari arasinda Sultan I. Ahmet tarafindan Istanbul'daki tarihî yarimadada, Mimar Sedefkâr Mehmet Aga'ya yaptirilmistir. Cami mavi, yesil ve beyaz renkli Iznik çinileriyle bezendigi için ve yarim kubbeleri ve büyük kubbesinin içi de gene mavi agirlikli kalem isleri ile süslendigi için Avrupalilarca "Mavi Cami (Blue Mosque)" olarak adlandirilir.

Caminin 43 metre yüksekligindeki merkezi kubbesinin çapi 23,5 metredir. Türkiyedeki 6 minareli üç camiden biridir (diger ikisi ise Adana'daki Sabanci Camii ve Mersin'deki Mugdat Camii'dir) Minarelerinin dördü üçer, ikisi de ikiser serefelidir ve 6 minarede toplam toplam 16 serefe bulunmaktadir.

Cami ve avlusu her zaman çok kalabalik. Avluda, cami ziyaretçi girisine yakin ve kalabaligin daha az oldugu bir kösede bir kutu sakladik. Kutu yerde, kösedeki bir oyugun içinde. Kutuyu ilgisiz gözlerden saklamak için oyugun agzini tas parçalari ile kapattik. Kutuda her zamanki kayit defteri ve kalem disinda, ufak tefek cam süs esyalari, miknatisli göz boncuklari ve Iznik çinisi seklinde magnet'ler bulunuyor.
