This is a gentle series of three caches which, along Nearly Style-ish (thanks to Sickkid 1972’s for his permission to mention his cache) creates a trail starting and finishing in Cockermouth’s Harris Park.
The trail is not quite a circular route, but from Harris Park the outermost cache is Nearly Style-ish making a walk of about 1.5 miles in total. The paths can be muddy after rain, and indeed the River Cocker has been known to flood! There are also some steep steps, but overall the trail is not too onerous and can be done easily within an hour.
The start point is Harris Park. There is street parking close by. It is 1hr disc parking towards the town centre, but no parking restriction at the top of the park (southern end).
The route, roughly anti-clockwise is
Cockermouth - An Alternative Trunk Route #1
Cockermouth - An Alternative Trunk Route #2
Nearly Style-ish
Cockermouth - An Alternative Trunk Route #3
Harris Park was given to Cockermouth in 1895 by Mrs Harris in memory of her husband Joseph Harris, of Harris’s linen mill. The park contains a children’s play area, tennis courts, bowling green, and many pleasant walks. In winter an excellent view of the town is obtained from the terrace walk.
From either An Alternative Trunk Route #2 or Nearly Style-ish follow one of the paths back to the footbridge and once more cross over to the west side of the River Cocker. Remain on a low level path until the north end of Harris Park and take one of the winding paths back to the top level.
