The palette of fall colors is breathtaking along this popular scenic road. Come back to these highlands for a cool summer breeze, but the road is closed in winter. The aspen groves protected many a Basque sheepherder and his sheep as the carvings on the trees reveal. There are three in this series that line the roadside.
The Monitor Pass Aspen Grove cache takes you on Road 358 into an old stand of aspen trees that provides a majestic location for a fall walk or picnic. Take time to look for arborglyphs carved by the Basque sheepherders and some by travelers-by in recent times.
Just unscrew the lid to get to the log and small trade items.
