Geocache Description:

Sodetome-bashi Bridge : Small Bridge, but sad story remains here.

There is a small river near the GZ.
This river is called a Nagasawa river.

Moreover, there is a small bridge completed by the stone.
This bridge is a bridge named Midori-bashi.
This name was the one since the Meiji era, and it was called the Sodetome-bashi till then.

Moreover, the vicinity of this bridge widely had the shape of the pond by the width of a river.
It was the one that only here was wide the width of a river that had been enhanced to provide the function as the moat of Matsumoto castle.
This was called Sodetome-ike pond.

The legend is handed down in the bridge of this unusual name.

Lord of Matsumoto, Ogasawara Hidemasa tried to go out to fight accompanied by two sons in 1615. The fight was "Siege of Osaka".
Mother who caught up in this bridge detained the separation with the infant son gripping the regrettable sleeve.
However, the son seems to have started shaking off the gripped sleeve and going into battle.
It is a name given from the stay of the sleeve in the hand of left mother.

Afterwards, Hidemasa and the oldest son are killed.
It was a second son that shook off the sleeve.
It survived though the second son was a serious injury.

キャッシュポイント近くには小さな川と石でできた小さな橋があります。
この川は長沢川といいます。

またこの石の橋は、緑橋という橋です。
この名前は明治以降のもので、それまでは袖留橋と呼んでいました。
またこの橋の前後は川幅が広く池の形をしていました。
ここだけ川幅が広かったのは、松本城の堀としての機能を持たせるために拡張されたものだと言われています。
これを袖留池と呼んでいました。

この変わった名前の橋には伝説が残っています。

１６１５年松本城主小笠原秀政が大坂の陣に２人の息子を伴って出かけようとしたときのことです。
この橋のところで追いついた母が幼い息子との別れを惜しみ袖をつかんで引きとめました。
しかし、息子はつかんだ袖を振り切って戦いに出かけたそうです。
残された母の手に袖が留まったということからついた名前です。
その後、秀政と長男は戦死してしまいます。
袖を振り払った次男は重傷ながら生き残りました。
