Geocache Description:

Drive a few switchbacks up the road from Teramachi in Joetsu. In the spring and summer you can enjoy bobsleighing down the concrete tracks. In the winter? Skiing, sledding and snowball fights.

Theodor Lerch was an Austrian Major who taught "one pole skiing" to the Japanese army some one hundred years ago on this mountain. The town of Joetsu still celebrates the birthplace of skiing at the yearly "Lerch Festival" in February
