Drive a few switchbacks up the road from Teramachi in Joetsu. In
the spring and summer you can enjoy bobsleighing down the concrete
tracks. In the winter? Skiing, sledding and snowball fights.
Theodor Lerch was an Austrian Major who taught "one pole skiing" to
the Japanese army some one hundred years ago on this mountain. The
town of Joetsu still celebrates the birthplace of skiing at the
yearly "Lerch Festival" in February
2010年から100年前、オーストリア少佐のテオドール・レルヒが,日本陸軍に杖を1本だけ使うスキー術をこの山で教えました。上越市では、毎年2月に「レルヒ祭」をにぎやかにこの金谷山で行います。
