juniorjetclub: Looks like the GC has gone. Ah well, it’s lasted 14 years, that’s not bad.

Lambourn – At the heart of ‘The Valley of the Racehorse’.
This small, but vibrant village is located in the beautiful chalk downlands of West Berskshire, close to the source of the river Lambourn and the ‘Ridgeway’, where there are numerous other caches for you to discover.
Within the valley, there are over 2000 racehorses in training and the village and wider community is littered with in excess of 50 training yards. On Good Friday of every year, the training yards open their doors to the general public for the ‘Lambourn Open Day’ so that you can get a taste of what goes on within the confines of the yards. Then in the afternoon, demonstrations, shows, trade stalls and amusements are put on in a field just outside the village. All the while, the village used to be watched by ‘The Stag’, making sure that everything remained just as it should! Whilst The Stag itself is no more, the cache lives on in its memory.
Difficulty rating at 1.5 as GPS reception could be poor at the cache location.
There is ample parking available at the suggested parking waypoint.
Go to the above co-ordinates, on the high street. How many chimney pots are there on top of ‘Lambourn Universal Stores’?
This is ‘A’
Cross over the crossroads in the market square to WP2. Here, there is a plaque commemorating the actions of 2nd Lt Lawrence Berkoff DFC (read a transcript of his actions at (visit link) ).
‘B’ = 2nd Lt Berkoff’s age - 20.
Walk back towards the market square and along the foot lane on the right (3-post lane). When passing the cemetery of St Michael & All Angels church, look out for WP3, the grave of John May. What year did his WIFE die?
This is CDEF.
For interest only, just on the other side of the trees next to John May’s grave, there is a big headstone for John Carter. It is quite worn, but if you can, it is worth a read of the inscription. A pared down version can be found in amongst the info at (visit link)
Keep walking along 3-post lane to WP4. Here you will find a red post box. On the bottom right of the information panel, there is a code beginning RG then 5 numbers.
These numbers are HJ KLM.
Now it’s just a simple matter of finding the remains of The Stag
On your way to entering the woods at WP5, don’t forget to look out for the lighthouses on the right in the river!
‘The Stag’ is located at: N 51°3B.DHC W001°3A.FKE
Good luck
