Geocache Description:

Details

This event is designed to allow geocachers to give a little back to the environment and community. Between 11am and 1pm on 17th Oct 2010, we will be clearing away accumulated rubbish from the Sea Wall at Orpheus Drive, off Hillsborough. The timing of the event coincides with low tide.

This is quite an intriguing location but there is also a lot of litter so there is lots to do. There is a nice grassed area with picnic tables, boat ramp, and stone beach. There is also nearby a brand new foot bridge of some architectural merit across to Onehunga Bay Reserve.

There is plenty of car parking at the above coordinates. There is also an opportunity to hunt for two great nearby caches:

To log this cache you will need to arrive on the day and sign the log. We are unable to accept any advanced logging of attendance on the cache.

We will meet at 11am in the car park for coordination and instructions. Rubbish bags and gloves will be provided and the rubbish bags will be taken away by a contractor at the end of the event so you don't need to worry about that.

You may want to bring the following. Please also be aware that the rocks can be loose or slippery and care should be taken at all times:

  • What to wear: Gumboots or Sturdy boots or shoes, Long pants, long-sleeved shirt, sun hat, Waterproof jacket.
  • What else to bring: Drinking water - we will give you a bottle (while stocks last) but you may want to bring your own.

The location of this CITO was sourced through Auckland City Council via Conservation Volunteers New Zealand, a non-profit organisation. We would like to thank them for their help in arranging this opportunity to help the community.
