Geocache Description:

A nice little park at Bargara overlooking the sea. It has seats and a picnic table but no other facilities.

The woman behind the park (Many thanks to Bethden for this information)

The park was named after Pat Hansen Woodhouse, a local woman who was well ahead of her time. When her first marriage broke down she started her "other life" as a business woman and developer. She initially worked in Chandlers electrical store and became one of the first to do cooking demonstrations in store to promote sales of appliances.

After a trip to America where she discovered the concept of a motel she built the first one in Bundaberg near the airport, called 'The Ramble Inn'. It's still there but now called 'Tropical Gardens'.

Her work in Bargara included developing the caravan park just up the road from this park and the Galleon Cave restaurant which was beside it (since demolished and is now a vacant block). She was a talented cook and entertainer and often entertained her guests at the restaurant, especially playing the spoons. On opening night at the Cave her temperamental French chef downed tools and walked out. She was left with a house full of guests but calmly went into the kitchen and proceeded to cook the ordered meals.

She built the shopping complex on Dunne Road in Bundaberg and her own residence further along Woongarra Scenic Drive. She also built other homes around Bargara and targeted young couples who did not have much finance to purchase these homes. In many cases she helped couples who could not raise a deposit into a home and said she was not ever let down by any of those she helped in this way.

Not only did she manage building projects, she actually worked on site doing the tough work as well. At one stage she used to make the building blocks herself.

She eventually was brought undone partly from her life's work as she died of asbestosis.
