The trails in Rancho Carrillo are a great walking network. This cache is near the Melrose Drive parking (?) area.
This is a replacement for cache at the same location that was accidentally archived instead of disabled. I guess it qualifies for FTF cred, but the are no FTF incentives.
You can reach it easily from the "parking area" at 33 07.339, 117 14.195. I think it is a legal parking area. There is a recessed curb and no "No Parking" signs.
The trails branch at this point, one goes high and one stays in the arroyo. They are equally fine trails. This is a great dog walking area and the trails are well used. Watch for muggles. The lower trail joins the San Marcos trail system. Following these trails to the park above the water tank is a great, somewhat strenuos, walk with great views from the top. It's about a 3.5 mile round trip. However, these trails can be entered from numerous locations, including the park at the top. (33 07.413, 117 13.447)
