This is the 2nd in a series of caches at some of the most haunted sites around the old city of Norwich. The city has a rich history of hauntings, apparitions and other supernatural happenings in its alleyways, winding streets, churches, pubs and other historic buildings. This series of caches celebrates this fascinating aspect of living in this great medieval city.
Who knows what lurks in the shadows as you search for these hidden caches? Dare you even look for them in the hours of darkness?!
Cachers with young children might not want to read them the following descriptions about the sites.
Between St John’s church and the a local theatre (which I'm not allowed to name!) runs the narrow St John’s Alley, the haunt of the Maddermarket Monk. The popular local theatre was once a chapel and this is where the monk is thought to have originated from. He has often been seen by theatregoers and cast members and even been known to watch the odd performance from the stalls! On more than one occasion cast members have glanced sideways to see a hooded figure lurking in the wings! He has also been seen walking the alleyway which is where you’ll find the cache which is dedicated to his memory.
