Potch oak tree Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

Goudogie: Ek bly ongelukkig nie meer in Potch nie. Dus kan ek nie die skat onderhou of 'n plan maak oor die toestand van die area nie.

Baie dankie vir almal wat wel na die ongelooflike boom kom kyk het.

Geocache Description:

This cache is dedicated to Danie Brink on his 24th birthday. The oak tree is a symbol of strength and endurance, two words we would use to describe his character.

Quercus is the genus name for the oak tree. During spring the tree carries flowers called catkins. The tree also carries acorns which is the fruit of the tree. Oak wood was used in the middle ages for the interior paneling of prestigious buildings such as the British House of Commons in London, England. Oak wood is still used for the making of furniture, flooring etc. One of the main uses is the making of barrels for the aging of particularly Scotch whisky and Bourbon whisky.
You might think you are seeing double but in fact there are two beautiful oak trees right opposite each other. A living national monument is Potchefstroom's oak avenue. The avenue consists of more than 700 trees spanning 7 km. Potchefstroom's oak avenue (declared a national heritage site in 1976) was planted in 1910. This oak avenue is regarded as the longest oak avenue in Southern Africa (Tom street)

Cache is a regular container, containing logbook and swag.
