Geocache Description:

The National Park Service has added Nettleton's Addition, located in Spokane's West Central neighborhood, to the National Register of Historic Places.
Nettleton's Addition becomes Washington States largest National Historic District.

In the 1800s the area originally contained elegant homes of businessmen and in the early 1900s businesses began to grow around the houses.

This district is perfect to walk though since the area contains many picturesque houses.

Nettleton’s Addition is named for William Nettleton, whose work in Spokane and the Midwest facilitated westward expansion by rail.

Nettletons Addition was among Spokanes earliest streetcar suburbs catering to the housing needs of the emerging turn-of-the-century middle-class that has preserved the beauty of its past.

Seventy percent of the current housing stock was built prior to 1910. Nettletons Addition was added to the Washington State Heritage Register in June 2005.

Spokane artist Steffan Wachholtz installed the sculpture featuring novel uses of recycled materials. His eco-friendly design includes vintage items such as an old cauldron and a pendulum made partially from old car parts. The seating that wraps around the base of the piece was previously an Avista electrical wire spool.
The new sculpture received major sponsorship by the Associated Garden Clubs of Spokane.
