Invader Hunt: European Buckthorn
This multi-cache takes you on a journey along the Mississippi
river, using European Buckthorn clues to lead you to the final
cache. European Buckthorn has transformed countless acres of land,
and is one of the most aggressive invasive plants within the
Mississippi National River and
Recreation Area. This powerful invader creates trouble for
ecosystems; crowding out native species, degrading wildlife
habitat, and reducing biodiversity. Unchecked, this ecosystem bully
will continue to take over, altering ecosystems and obliterating
native species. Learn about this invader while you hunt for our
first Mississippi River Multi-cache!
Hidden Falls Regional Park
In 1887, Hidden Falls Regional Park was one of the four original
park areas selected for St. Paul by noted landscape architect,
Horace Cleveland. Cleveland's underlying philosophy was to preserve
landscape features and the nature that shaped those features while
making the parks accessible for all people to enjoy and not just
the wealthy. He went on to greatly influence the park systems in
both St. Paul and Minneapolis, as well as other Midwestern
cities.
