This cache was placed within the Barnette Conservation Preserve near the Coal River, located off of Strawberry Road in St. Albans. Plenty of parking is available adjacent to the trailhead.
The Barnette Conservation Preserve is a 30-acre tract of land that was donated to the Coal River Group by the family of Curtis Hank Barnette. Bill Currey and the late Bill Queen co-founded the Coal River Group, a watershed cleanup group that has been responsible for a variety of major clean up and preservation programs for the Big, Little and Coal Rivers. The group was established by the two men after they had floated and fished the entire 88 miles of the three rivers. Their mission is to "Bring life back to the Coal Rivers." To read more about the history, accomplishments, and future goals of the CRG and to get more information on Coal River recreational opportunities, please visit the link above.
Please support the work of the CRG and all its volunteers by remembering to "cache in, trash out"!
The cache container is an ammo box. The original contents include lots of goodies for the kiddies, a couple of puzzle books, a WV Mountaineers Rubick's cube, and a FTF prize. This cache was placed during one of my many visits to Maw Maw's house, and in memory of my grandmother-in-law, Dottie.
